Matka Lake

Just a short 40 minute drive from Skopje, Matka Canyon is a breathtaking natural escape known for its dramatic cliffs, turquoise waters, and rich biodiversity. The lake itself is an artificial reservoir formed by a dam, yet it blends seamlessly into the wild landscape.

Lake Matka is renowned for its outdoor activities - kayaking through the narrow canyon, boat trips to the famous Vrelo Cave (one of the deepest underwater caves in Europe), and hiking along scenic trails with spectacular views.

The canyon is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including many endemic species of butterflies, plants, and small animals. Monasteries such as Monastery of Saint Andrew add a cultural dimension to the visit, making Lake Matka a perfect blend of nature, adventure, and heritage just minutes from the capital.
