Prespa Lake

Nestled between Macedonia, Albania, and Greece, Lake Prespa is a peaceful and lesser-visited destination known for its untouched nature and rich wildlife. Divided into Great and Small Prespa, the lake sits at a higher altitude than nearby Lake Ohrid and is surrounded by national parks and traditional villages.

Lake Prespa is especially famous for its birdlife, hosting one of the largest colonies of Dalmatian pelican in Europe. Its waters are calmer and more secluded, making it ideal for nature lovers, birdwatching, and quiet retreats away from mass tourism.

Visitors can explore sandy and wild beaches, take boat trips to the island of Golem Grad (also known as “Snake Island”), or enjoy cycling and hiking through the surrounding landscapes. The flora is diverse, with reed beds, orchards, and endemic plant species contributing to the lake’s ecological importance.
